BurnBot project to begin

A week-long project to reduce fire risk at Incline Pines begins Monday July 7.

The HOA board of directors this week approved a contract with BurnBot to masticate vegetation on the property up to eight inches in diameter at breast height. The company will not be felling trees.

The cost to the HOA is $24,750 with Tahoe Fund generously providing $5,000 of that.

HOA board president Heidi Burton has been working with BurnBot to schedule the work and received confirmation this morning:

Good morning Heidi,

We anticipate mobilizing and beginning work July 7th!

Amy (Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry) is going to work with Keegan from Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District to conduct the Defensible Space Inspections for each home within your HOA prior to our work. This should give them enough time to complete and record these inspections.

We anticipate completing all work that week and my understanding is a second round of inspections will occur after, just as we did in Tyrolian Village.

Please let me know if you would like to meet with your homeowners for a Q&A prior to this. I know Amy will invite you to our weekly meetings as we lead up to work.

The only needs we have at this time is to identify the utilities within the HOA so they can be flagged and protected.

Overview of BurnBot’s plan for Incline Pines

Insurance reminder

BurnBot has demonstrated its methods to the insurance industry and we’re hoping the work at Incline Pines will keep the insurance market for individual policies open to us.

The HOA’s master insurance policy covering all 40 units at Incline Pines expires on June 29 and will not be renewed. The board has found no available alternative master policies.

As a result, each homeowner must secure their own homeowners policy (not an HO6 condo policy). The process can take several weeks so it’s a good idea to start shopping as soon as possible.

The HOA is aware of three large underwriters who are still writing policies in Incline Village:

  • USAA
  • Allstate
  • State Farm

From shared experience, State Farm appears to be the most restrictive with its defensible space guidelines and in-person inspections.

To the best of our knowledge, USAA and Allstate have not required in-person inspections and seem mostly interested in the home’s construction, furnishings and condition. Both companies use an app for homeowners to provide a self inspection.

Allstate will not insure a home at Incline Pines unless it is the owners’ primary residence or their primary residence is insured by Allstate.
